Both The Netherlands and Brussels are working on an evaluation and reformulation of the taxi legislation, partly driven by the UberPop-initiative. According to Dutch Secretary Wilma Mansveld (Ministry of Transport and the Environment), the project she promised for January 2015 will now be presented “at the end of the first quarter of 2015.” The reason for the delay is unknown. It is understood that Uber hopes the reformulated legislation will allow it to operate services like UberPop legally. Both in Amsterdam and Brussels these services are currently banned.
In Brussels, which hopes to make its taxi service more dynamic and customer-friendly, the evaluation of its taxi legislation is on track and might well be ready before the Dutch evaluation.
