Leading international stakeholders set the scene for the taxi industry of the future and welcomed two new industry experts to the Advisory Committee of the UpTop Global Taxi Network – IRU’s renamed Global Taxi Network (GTN).
At the Taxi Expo in Istanbul, beginning of February, IRU welcomed two new industry experts, Susan Shaheen and Richard Darbéra, to the Advisory Committee of the UpTop Global Taxi Network who will bring additional knowledge and experience to the committee’s work.
Sonila Metushi, who leads IRU’s work on its global taxi network, commented, “By agreeing to join the advisory committee Susan Shaheen and Richard Darbéra bring new insights to our work. We look forward to working with them and learning from their professional knowledge and experience.”
Richard Darbéra is a French researcher and author recognised for his work on the economics and role of taxis in today’s world. He has done extensive consultancy work for the OECD, US-AID and the World Bank.
Susan Shaheen is Adjunct Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Co-Director of the Transportation Sustainability Research Centre, and Director at Innovative Mobility Research at the University of California Berkeley. She has worked extensively on researching car sharing and future transportation. (An interview with her can be found in the March issue of Taxi Times – www.taxi-times.com).
The UpTop Advisory Committee held its third meeting in Istanbul. The committee discussed changing mobility patterns and the important role of taxis in the future mobility chain, as well as examining employment issues in the fast changing sector.
Mary Crass, Head of Policy and Summit Preparation for the International Transport Forum and Chair of the UpTop Advisory Committee said, “Taxis are an important part of the ongoing mobility transformation and are ideally placed to leverage the benefits of the technological changes under way. UpTop has a key role to play in this transformation since it brings together best practice in the taxi industry today.”
