Schiphol Amsterdam Airport, Europe’s fifth airport in passenger numbers and world-wide the one with the smallest impact on the environment, will soon have a fleet of a 167 Tesla Model S-taxis. At the end of October, the first 50 were presented at the airport, supplied by 2 different taxi companies, BIOS Group (which will eventually have 71) and BBF (96) – black for BIOS and white for BBF.
The airport, used to tightly regulating its ‘Schipholtaxis’ since The Netherlands deregulated its taxi trade in 2000, strongly pushed for environmentally-friendly taxi services in its last tender. Surprisingly, it was won by 3 taxi companies, 2 of which offered Tesla Model S-taxis. The other one provides minivan-services with the latest type of Mercedes Sprinter-van. The airport now prides itself on a ‘world first’, being the first and only airport with such a large Tesla and e-taxi fleet.
