Residents in Heywood in the Manchester-borough of Rochdale –the centre of Britain’s biggest grooming scandal- have been offered white drivers after two local drivers of Pakistani origin were jailed for their part in the rape and trafficking of young white girls.
Stephen Campbell, the manager of Car 2000, which took over Eagle Taxis, incriminated in that scandal, told The Guardian that a consequence of the affair was that many white customers ask for white drivers – or ‘local’ drivers. Campbell said the company receives up to 60 calls a week requesting a white driver. In most cases he sends a white driver as the conditions of his (minicab) operations licence don’t expressly forbid this.
Probably inspired by the Rochdale-story, Belgian journalists put the same question to 8 taxi companies, 4 of which based in the capital Brussels. Most companies responded positively to the question for having a white driver.
